Permissions: How To

There are several ways to obtain permission to use copyrighted work.  Many (most) of these will involve paying a fee.

  • Contact the copyright holder directly. 
          This is usually the publisher of the work – even in most cases when the author retained
          his/her copyright.

  • Use a copyright clearance service. 
          There are several that you can use, including:

           o   Copyright Clearance Center

            o   iCopyright 

 
You could also contact your subject librarian to see if the library is able to obtain a copy.  Some uses will require copyright permission fees even when the library has a copy.
